April 8 – The first blessing by a Lama
Today was a very important day for all of us, the Sherpas and Jim and I. At 9:00am this morning we went to a Buddhist monastery here in Kathmandu. Once we arrived there all of us received the blessing from the local Lama. According to the Sherpa believe and custom, this ceremony should protect us from any accident in the mountain, give us strength for the journey and provide us with a long life. It as a deep experience for me and once again I am glad that I climb this mountain with local people respecting their deep believes and customs. It gives such a different meaning to the whole journey.
